St Martin’s Church

Today we had the fantastic opportunity to take a closer look inside our local church. The children were fascinated by the various objects that were displayed and in response asked some very thoughtful questions. We were all surprised to learn that the oldest part of the church is over 1000 years old!

Balanceability

Today Year 1 enjoyed a really exciting day practising their balancing skills in a series of workshops. After moving very carefully over different obstacles they then got to test their skills on the balance bikes. Great fun was had by all!

Ball skills

The Starfish Class had a very exciting morning today practising their ball skills. They developed their control of the ball through lots of fun and exciting games.

We are photographers

This term we are using digital devices such as iPads to take photographs. After giving the children the theme of ‘Starfish Class’ they went off to work in small groups photographing areas of interest to them. They then had to review their images and decide whether to keep or delete them.

Investigating materials

Today we identified different plastics in the classroom and discussed why they had been used. We then decided to test how flexible plastic could be squirting water out of different containers.

A Story through Dance

Starfish Class have been using a variety of actions to retell the familiar story of the Three Little Pigs. It was very interesting to see each groups’ interpretation of the story.

Exploring instruments

This term in Music we will be exploring some of the different classroom instruments and identifying the sounds that they make. Today the children enjoyed playing a selection of wood, metal and skin instruments.

Materials

Continuing our Science learning on the different properties of materials, Starfish Class have designed and made their own boats from a range of common materials. We then tested them to see which material would be the most suitable to use. .

Rounding numbers

In Maths the children in Year 2 have been learning how to round 2 digit numbers to the nearest 10. They paid careful attention to the ones number before deciding whether to round it up or down. Can they explain to you how to do this?
